
The Giant and Sámi Blood to Toronto
Toronto International Film Festival has announced that an additional two Swedish films will be screened at the upcoming festival. The Giant by Johannes Nyholm and Sámi Blood by Amanda Kernell are the two titles and they will be screened in the prestigious section Discovery. Furthermore, Petter Lindblad has been picked to represent Sweden in Producers Lab, which is organized by EFP during the festival.
In The Giant Johannes Nyholm continues to build on the unique universe he created with his short films Las Palmas and Puppetboy.
The film is produced by Garagefilm International and Beofilm in collaboration with Film Väst, Swedish Television in collaboration with Joclo, Beofilm Post Production, Tonemestrene. It received funding from the Swedish Filminstitute via consulent Magdalena Jangard, the Danish Filminstitute, Eurimage, Nordisk Film & TV Fond and Kreativa Europa Media.
In Sámi Blood, Amanda Kernell looks at false teachings in racial biology, colonial structures and Sámi identity. She has previously covered the same subjects in her Guldbagge-nominated short Northern Great Mountain (Stoerre Varie), which was also selected for the Sundance Film Festival in the US.
Sámi Blood is produced by Lars G. Lindström for Nordisk Film and has received funding from the Swedish Film Institute, film commissioner Magadalena Jangard. The film is being sold internationally by Level K and will be distributed in Sweden by Nordisk Film during spring 2017.
Furthermore, Petter Lindblad has been picked to represent Sweden in Producers Lab, which is organized by European Film Promotion during the Toronto Film Festival. Producers Lab is a forum where producers from around the world meet to discuss ideas, projects and financing. Petter Lindblad's latest production is Siv sleeps astray (Siv sover vilse) which premieres at Swedish cinemas on September 30. He was also elected Producer on the Move at Cannes Film Festival in 2014.
It was earlier announced that Kasper Collins I Called Him Morgan is to be screened in the Tiff Docs category and the short films Mr. Sugar Daddy by Dawid Ullgren and Because the World Never Stops by Maximilien van Aertryck and Axel Danielson in the Short Cuts section.
